Truven Health Analytics Supports the Association for Professionals in Infection Control and Epidemiology International Infection Prevention Week

Ann Arbor, MI, Oct. 23, 2013 — Truven Health Analytics™ is proud to support the Association for Professionals in Infection Control and Epidemiology (APIC) International Infection Prevention Week (IIPW), which occurs globally, October 20-26, 2013.

To celebrate IIPW, and continue the theme of infection prevention throughout the year, APIC has created the “Infection Prevention and You” campaign with a new website and resources for both patients and healthcare professionals. The campaign also features a one-page infographic that illustrates the steps patients can take to support infection prevention efforts and to help lower their risk of infection, including defining healthcare-associated infections; explaining what patients and families can do to play an active role in their care; and describing an infection preventionist.

“International Infection Prevention Week is a good time to celebrate the work that is being done to reduce healthcare-associated infections, ” says Tina Moen, PharmD, chief clinical officer, Truven Health Analytics. “As an APIC Strategic Partner, we are committed to our shared infection prevention goals. This includes helping to increase awareness of each individual’s role in infection prevention best practices – in and out of healthcare facilities.”

“Clean hands are essential for preventing infections. Hospital patients in particular need to know that asking healthcare providers to clean their hands before administering care is appropriate. Likewise, patients should wash their own hands regularly, and remind their visitors to do the same, because infection prevention is everyone’s responsibility, ” adds Moen.

Truven Health Analytics has made a substantial commitment to providing the technology resources that providers and clinicians need at the point of care and beyond, particularly with its Micromedex® Infection Prevention solution. Micromedex Infection Prevention is a real-time clinical surveillance and reporting tool that helps infection prevention staff identify and avoid hospital-acquired infections, decrease never events, and improve infection prevention efforts. This powerful tool, which is part of the company’s Micromedex 360 Care Insights Suite, also eliminates manual data reviews, provides data for identifying trends at a glance, alerts staff of potential outbreaks, and simplifies mandatory National Healthcare Safety Network (NHSN) reporting.
