Brazilian medications now supported in Micromedex Medication Advisory Screening module from Truven Health Analytics, an IBM Company

The Federal Pharmacy Council in Brazil (CFF) and the Brazilian Medicines Information Centre (CEBRIM) Support the Inclusion of Selected ANVISA-Approved Drugs in Truven Health’s Integrated Drug Interactions Screening Solution

Ann Arbor, MI, Oct. 27, 2016 — With exclusive support from CFF and CEBRIM to develop local Latin American drug summary information, the Medication Advisory Screening (MAS) module from Truven Health Micromedex® Solutions now includes select ANVISA-approved medications to support local decisions and screens up to 13 types of interactions. Those interactions include drug-drug, drug-food, drug-ethanol, drug-laboratory, drug-tobacco, drug-pregnancy, drug-lactation, drug-allergy, ingredient duplication, and more. The ANVISA-approved drugs can now also be searched in Micromedex Complete Drug Interactions (formerly known as DRUG-REAX®), the online solution for interactions checking.

The MAS module can be integrated into any electronic health record (EHR), providing access to drug interactions screening for all patients across the hospital, clinic or ambulatory care setting. It integrates directly within the clinical workflow, helping clinicians improve outcomes by avoiding potentially harmful adverse drug events and reducing unnecessary hospital expense.

Jorge Manosalva, Regional Director for Latin America at Truven Health Analytics commented, “the integration of MAS provides automated alerts within seconds, and coverage of ANVISA approved medications enables clinicians in Brazil, and across Latin America, to follow local prescription practices and determine the best clinical management for patients.”

The evidence used to support the integrated tool follows the same trusted editorial process as Micromedex online, helping clinicians make decisions with confidence using clinically consistent, current information. Currently, more than 5, 500 hospitals, regulatory bodies, and other healthcare organizations in over 85 countries worldwide rely on Micromedex Solutions as a trusted evidence-based medicine resource. In Brazil, Micromedex is used by healthcare providers and institutions across the country, including the Ministry of Education (CAPES), the Ministry of Health, the National Health Surveillance Agency (ANVISA), and the Federal Pharmacy Council.

José Luis Miranda Maldonado, Scientific Technical Coordinator at CFF and Rogério Hoefler, Pharmacist at CEBRIM, said, “We consider Micromedex the most trusted reference for evidence-based drug information and is relied on by pharmacists across Brazil, supporting the practice of clinical pharmacy and helping position the pharmacist as a healthcare provider. We are happy to be able to support the addition of ANVISA-approved drugs into the integrated interactions solution; we are giving healthcare professionals more information to better manage the patient´s medications, always aiming for the best possible care.”

In addition to MAS, the complete integrated offering from Micromedex Solutions includes Medication Management, Disease & Condition Management, Toxicology Management and Patient Education featuring CareNotes®.
