Truven Health Analytics 100 Top Hospitals Summit Honors Highest-Performing Hospitals and Health Systems

Leading Healthcare Experts Discuss the Future of the Industry

Ann Arbor, MI, Jul. 02, 2013 — Truven Health Analytics™ celebrated the 20th anniversary of its 100 Top Hospitals® program at the 100 Top Hospitals Summit last week in Washington, D.C. This event honors leaders who are setting the pace for performance improvement for the nation. The annual gathering is attended by hospital executives whose facilities are current or past 100 Top Hospitals program award winners.

“The winners of the 100 Top Hospitals award are the leaders in improving healthcare, ” said Mike Boswood, Truven Health Analytics president and CEO. “At a time of tumultuous change in our industry, they have consistently found ways to improve health outcomes for their patients and build successful business cultures to promote and support an emphasis on quality in everything they do.”

The 100 Top Hospitals Summit not only celebrates hospital leaders’ achievements, but also creates a dialog with the organizations that are shaping the future of industry. Among the nationally recognized healthcare experts who presented at the Summit were:

  • Austan Goolsbee, professor of economics, The University of Chicago’s Booth School of Business; former Chairman of the Council of Economic Advisers under President Obama
  • Jonathan Blum, deputy administrator and director, The Center of Medicare at the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services
  • Quint Studer, founder, The Studer Group
  • Nancy-Ann DeParle, former deputy chief of staff and director of the White House Office of Health Reform
  • Mark R. Neaman, president and chief executive officer, NorthShore University Health System – a 16-time recipient of the 100 Top Hospitals award
A growing need for integrating and relying on data rose to the top of all the speakers’ presentations. When asked what his top initiative would be if he were a hospital CEO, Goolsbee said he’d take a hard look at the data to understand the cost drivers, separating life-saving new treatments and technologies from addressable healthcare inflation, and then develop a game plan to conquer the requirements of the Accountable Care Act.

The Truven Health 100 Top Hospitals program is an annual study that evaluates hospital performance across a range of objective variables, such as mortality rates, complications, patient length of stay, and adherence to core measures. The 100 Top Hospitals program produces three studies each year: 100 Top Hospitals, 50 Top Cardiovascular Hospitals; and 15 Top Health Systems.

About the Truven Health 100 Top Hospitals® Program

Since 1993, the Truven Health 100 Top Hospitals program has used independent and objective research to guide hospital and health system performance. Organizations do not apply or pay for this honor, or pay to promote their award. Award-winning hospitals and health systems prove that better care is possible and provide an example for other organizations to follow across the industry. The 100 Top Hospitals award winners demonstrate top performance on both how patients are cared for through clinical measures and how the hospital performs as an efficient business. 100 Top Hospitals is a registered trademarks or trademarks of Truven Health Analytics.
