Oakwood Healthcare Selects Truven Health Analytics™ Micromedex® Solutions to Deliver Comprehensive and Integrated Patient and Consumer Education and Engagement Resources

Michigan-based health system will leverage Micromedex® Integrated CareNotes® to provide clinicians seamless access to evidence-based patient education resources together with Consumer Health Education featuring engaging web-based tools and resources to build patient and community wellness

Ann Arbor, MI, Jan. 27, 2015 — Truven Health Analytics™ today announced that Oakwood Healthcare – a four hospital, 1, 129-bed system – has selected the industry standard for evidence-based Clinical Decision Support (CDS), Micromedex® Solutions, to integrate patient education and consumer engagement resources into its EPIC Electronic Health Record (EHR). This integration will provide clinicians access to CDS resources within their workflow, at the point of care, and will allow them to extend their reach to promote community wellness by seamlessly delivering comprehensive patient education and engagement materials.

Oakwood will leverage Micromedex Integrated CareNotes® and Micromedex Consumer Health Education featuring SmartEngage™ to help support their commitment to improving the health and well-being of the patients and communities they serve. CareNotes patient discharge instructions, in addition to other educational and instructive documents, will be integrated directly into the EHR-workflow. Patients and the community will also have access to interactive, web-based health information, wellness tools, health assessments and actionable multimedia – all customizable to promote hospital brand and services lines.

“At Oakwood, our efforts focus on every patient, every time. We have a very diverse patient population making it even more important to be able to provide the right tools at the right time, ” said Lois Souva, director of nursing practice and informatics, Oakwood Healthcare.

“The integration of patient-specific resources saves our nurses time and provides them with several capabilities to improve workflow throughout the continuum of care – from patient and medication education at admission through post discharge. Extending our reach to the community with tools like this is just one more way we can meet our quality and wellness goals and provide information to the individuals and communities we serve.”

By Oakwood integrating a single source of evidence-based education and consumer health engagement resources across multiple platforms, including embedding it in the EPIC EHR for access in any care setting, Oakwood clinicians can inform and engage patients to be active participants in their own care while promoting clinical consistency across the care continuum through tools that are convenient, easy-to-use, and efficient for clinicians and patients.

Micromedex CareNotes and Consumer Health Education featuring SmartEngage are part of the Micromedex Patient Connect Suite, a single-source solution of products that delivers evidence-based, comprehensive, consistent patient health education and consumer health engagement resources for every stage of care, including patient instructions, education materials and engagement resources for diagnosis and condition, medication, and laboratory tests, and advanced multi-media tools in multiple languages.
