Truven Health Analytics Launches Free Mobile Micromedex App for Subscribers of its Online Micromedex Products

Free Micromedex Drug Reference for Internet Subscribers’ app is available now in iTunes; replaces access to the former Drug Information app which is now retired

Ann Arbor, MI, Mar. 31, 2014 — Truven Health Analytics™ today announced a new version of its free mobile app created for its customers in the U.S. and Canada who have an Internet-based subscription to Micromedex® evidence-based products. The app, called Free Micromedex Drug Reference for Internet Subscribers, provides clinical care professionals with on-the-go access to the industry’s most trusted drug information, including concise and critical information on more than 4, 500 search terms such as drug interactions, adverse effects, and adult and pediatric dosing.

Free Micromedex Drug Reference for Internet Subscribers is available exclusively to customers with an Internet-based Micromedex subscription. The app replaces the Micromedex Drug Information app, which was previously available free of charge to any Apple® device user, but is no longer available. In its place, customers with an Internet-based Micromedex subscription will continue to have free access to the exact same content and functionality via the new app (Free Micromedex Drug Reference for Internet Subscribers).

Clinicians, students, and practitioners who do not have an Internet-based subscription to Micromedex, either individually or through an institution, and wish to access this content can do so by downloading the Micromedex Drug Reference Essentials app for an annual fee of $2.99. This recent creation of two separate apps will enable Truven Health to continue to deliver access and value to the clinicians who rely on it, while ensuring it meets the Micromedex standard of quality.

“Healthcare professionals who use our app have come to rely on the industry standard for clinical content that only Micromedex delivers, and we are committed to delivering only the highest quality evidence for use in patient care, ” said Win Eckert, Director of Product Management at Truven Health. “To do so responsibly, it is necessary for us to invest in our mobile apps in a way that meets the changing needs of our customers and technology partners, ” he said.

“For Micromedex Internet Subscribers, this means providing access to content when and where it’s needed, including via mobile devices, as part of the value of their subscription. For non-Internet subscribers, this means charging a small fee — rather than clutter our app, which is used to care for patients, with advertisements or other distractions — to help us appropriately invest and enhance all of our Medication Management apps, ” Eckert added.

The first enhancement customers will notice with the new app is a change to the frequency of the required password update process. Users will only need to enter a password once annually to access the app, instead of quarterly as was required with other Micromedex Medication Management apps.

Free Micromedex Drug Reference for Internet Subscribers is part of a trio of Micromedex Medication Management apps, which includes Micromedex Drug Interactions and Micromedex IV Compatibility, also available for download in iTunes®. These apps are free of charge for those who have Internet subscriptions to this content online. Those who do not have an Internet-based subscription to Micromedex can purchase Micromedex Drug Reference Essentials along with the Micromedex Drug Interactions and IV Compatibility apps as an inexpensive solution for on-the-go medication management needs.
