Senior principal will address physician employment strategies and outcomes

Ann Arbor, MI, Nov. 06, 2012 — Truven Health Analytics℠, formerly the Healthcare business of Thomson Reuters, today announced Carol E. Alexander will speak at the American College of Healthcare Executives’ 2013 Congress on Healthcare Leadership.

Alexander is a senior principal at Truven Health Analytics. She will be joined by Al O’Connell, chief administrative officer, MIMA Medical Group in Melbourne, Florida.

The event, which will take place March 11-14, 2013 at the Hilton Chicago/Palmer House Hilton Chicago, Illinois, is the American College of Healthcare Executives’ annual conference that brings together more than 4, 500 in healthcare management.

Alexander’s program, The Anatomy of a Hospital Acquisition of a Large Group Practice, will include a lecture and a question and answer session. Together with O’Connell, Alexander will use a large physician group acquisition as the backdrop to understand the driving forces behind the trend toward hospital acquisition of private healthcare practices, examine the financial loss per physician that many hospitals are experiencing, and find a way losses can be mitigated through different acquisition models.

The Following are additional key issues the presentation will address:

  • Anatomy of Acquisition: The program will gather insight from the perspective of large multispecialty physician group on the acquisition process, critical areas of the negotiation, and alternate models hospitals could use to attract and align important large groups to their physician enterprise.
  • Easing the Transition: The lecture will build on lessons learned from both the hospital and physician side during both the negotiation and transition process, and explain how to avoid pitfalls leading up to the acquisition of a group practice
  • Avoiding Physician Mistrust: The forum will strive to help hospitals make the group acquisition process one that builds on the relationship with the physicians and help to overcome previous trust issues between the targeted physician acquisition and the hospital.
  • "In today’s healthcare industry, change is a common theme, ” Alexander said. “When large group practices are acquired, it creates a unique set of challenges, and it requires an understanding of both environments – physician and hospital to set realistic goals for this new partnership."
