Parkview Medical Center Implements Micromedex® Pharmacy Intervention

Truven Health Analytics Delivers Real-Time Clinical Surveillance and Evidence-Based Resources, to Identify At-risk Patients, to Top Colorado Hospital

Ann Arbor, MI, Dec. 03, 2012 — Truven Health Analytics™, formerly the Healthcare business of Thomson Reuters, today announced that Parkview Medical Center, a 370 bed acute care facility, pleased to recently be named a “Top 10 Colorado Hospital” and “Best Hospital in Southeastern Colorado”, has implemented Micromedex Pharmacy Intervention to further support its care quality and patient safety goals.

Parkview Medical Center staff now has access to Micromedex Pharmacy Intervention via the Internet from a computer or tablet, anywhere in the hospital, at any time. A mobile application is also available and especially useful for receiving real-time alerts that help clinicians identify and treat patients whose clinical data indicate they are at risk for complications or adverse affects. Mobile access is an invaluable resource to clinicians at the point-of-care, providing the critical patient information even when Internet connectivity is unavailable.

“We selected Micromedex Pharmacy Intervention to give our pharmacists the tools they need to quickly identify high-risk patients, especially in life-threatening situations. We are also focused on those patients who fit specific criteria for an intervention to help manage costs, ” said Greg Harder, Director of Pharmacy at Parkview Medical Center. “Because Pharmacy Intervention is real-time, we receive notifications electronically when patients meet these criteria, giving us the opportunity to prevent medication-related problems and making sure patients remain safe.”

Part of Micromedex® 360 Care Insights Suite, Pharmacy Intervention is a clinical surveillance solution that electronically identifies patients at risk for adverse drug events and other threats to patient safety. When at-risk patients and intervention candidates are identified, Pharmacy Intervention serves as a single-source of relevant data, providing a comprehensive clinical view of the patient’s results, history and pertinent information on a user-specific “360°” intelligent dashboard, to help make confident and informed treatment decisions. Using clinical profiles built with Micromedex evidence-based rules and clinical decision support case-definitions, Pharmacy Intervention covers many of the most medically significant and costly situations hospitals face today, such as antimicrobial, anticoagulation and glycemic monitoring, intravenous to oral therapy (IV to PO) conversions, narrow therapeutic indexing, patient safety, and target medications.
