Truven Health Analytics Names Michael L. Taylor, MD, Chief Medical Officer

Ann Arbor, MI, Feb. 01, 2013 — Truven Health Analytics™, formerly the Healthcare business of Thomson Reuters, today announced that Dr. Michael Taylor, MD, has been appointed chief medical officer. He was previously vice president and national business leader for Truven Health Analytics.

As chief medical officer, Dr. Taylor will develop and deepen relationships with customers, advise on product development, and provide counsel to Truven Health Analytics management on business strategy and medical issues.

Dr. Taylor is a physician executive with extensive experience in population health. He joined Truven Health Analytics in 2011 from Caterpillar Inc., where he was the medical director for health promotion and disease management. Dr. Taylor was directly responsible for Caterpillar’s wellness program, with over 100, 000 participants in the US. This comprehensive program, which included health promotion exams, biometric screening, tobacco cessation, and diabetes prevention and management programs, was part of an overall effort that led to a healthcare cost trend well below the national average over an 8 year period at Caterpillar.

“Dr. Mike Taylor brings such an enormous amount of real-world expertise in the critical field of population health and wellness to his newly expanded role at Truven, ” said Mike Boswood, president and CEO, Truven Health Analytics. “As the physician executive for our employer and health plan segments, Mike has earned tremendous respect both within our company and in the broader healthcare community; he will no doubt expand that reputation as he helps guide Truven Health Analytics as our chief medical officer.”

A board-certified internist, Dr. Taylor earned his medical degree at the University of Illinois College of Medicine, where he also did his residency. Before joining Caterpillar, he served as corporate medical director for Pekin Hospital and Progressive Health Systems in Pekin, Ill. He also provided primary care for many years within a multi-physician internal medicine practice. Dr. Taylor is a Fellow in the American College of Physicians and a member of the American College of Occupational and Environmental Medicine.

Dr. Taylor succeeds outgoing chief medical officer Raymond Fabius, M.D., FAAP, FACPE, who is leaving the company to pursue new business interests.
