Micromedex® Evidence-based Clinical Decision Support and Patient Education Now Available through HL7 InfoButton® Standard to Support Meaningful Use

Context-Aware Knowledge Retrieval Integration Option Now Links from Electronic Hospital Records (EHRs) to Micromedex® Clinical Knowledge and Micromedex® Patient Connect Resources from Truven Health Analytics

Ann Arbor, MI, Mar. 04, 2013 — Truven Health Analytics™, formerly the Healthcare business of Thomson Reuters, today announced that its Micromedex Clinical Knowledge clinical decision support (CDS) and Micromedex Patient Connect patient education resources are now accessible through an enhanced integration option using the most current version of Health Level Seven International (HL7) Context Retrieval (InfoButton®) standards. This streamlined access from an EHR to evidence-based, context-specific Clinical Decision Support (CDS) for Medication, Disease, Lab, as well as consumer drug and lab information and patient education, now bundled for EHR readiness, saves clinicians time and ensures clinical consistency across the care continuum while supporting Meaningful Use objectives

Micromedex clinical and patient education resources have been available to integrate in electronic health record (EHR) through standardized Application Programming Interface (API) deliverables for some time. Now, these Truven Health Micromedex Solutions have been enhanced to provide context-aware knowledge retrieval capabilities using HL7 (InfoButton) standards, expanding the delivery options to meet hospital and health system integration and compliance needs. There are many benefits in implementing the HL7 InfoButton® Standard Integration option into an EHR, including the ability to:

  • Access and promote evidence-based practice and CDS from a single, consistent source, anytime and anywhere within a hospital or health system including medication, disease and lab information
  • Speed clinical decision making without disrupting clinician’s workflow
  • Support Meaningful Use Stage 2 requirements related to the retrieval format of CDS and patient education and maximize reimbursements
  • Provide at the point-of-care continuously updated, customizable, patient education documents that support Core Measures
  • Access clinical and non-clinical data sources across multiple applications and HIS vendors through our established partnerships.
Truven Health Analytics has has current relationships with most of the most widely adopted and respected Electronic Health Record (EHR) vendors in the U.S., to make it easier, more efficient and more cost effective to integrate professional clinical content, patient education and consumer engagement resources from Micromedex Solutions into hospital clinical systems.
