Truven Health Analytics Receives Accreditation from National Institute for Health and Care Excellence

Five-year accreditation validates company’s Micromedex® clinical decision support (CDS) solution is among the most robustly produced, evidence-based CDS tools available to healthcare professionals

Ann Arbor, MI, May 02, 2013 — Truven Health Analytics™, formerly the Healthcare business of Thomson Reuters, today announced a five-year accreditation from the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) for content development processes for the Micromedex® Medication Management product. The NICE Accreditation Advisory Committee found that Truven Health Analytics has a robust process for producing the content in its database used in clinical decision support products.

NICE Accreditation helps healthcare professionals identify the most trusted sources of guidance, developed using critically-evaluated, high-quality processes, which support the delivery of quality care.

The NICE Accreditation Advisory Committee evaluated the processes used by Truven Health Micromedex Solutions to develop and maintain the clinical information in its online database ( Micromedex® Medication Managementdrug evaluations and summaries), which assists clinicians to make informed and safe decisions about patients’ medication and care management decisions at the point of care. The Committee found that the processes used by Truven Health to produce content in its database are of high quality, meeting 22 of the 23 applicable accreditation criteria.

“We recognize that the database facilitates the process of safe prescribing of both on- and off-label medicines so clinicians can make informed diagnosis and treatment decisions, ” said Carl Parker, M.D., Vice Chair, NICE Accreditation Advisory Committee. “It’s clear that Truven has a strong systematic process for searching and identifying the evidence base that is used to populate its content database.”

Truven Health is among the first organizations to have its process for content development for its clinical decision support solution accredited by NICE, providing confidence in the information used to improve patient care.

“We are honored to be recognized by NICE, which is known internationally for promoting excellence in patient care, ” said Mike Boswood, president and chief executive officer of Truven Health Analytics. “The accreditation acknowledges the tradition of editorial excellence our team has built up over decades of hard work and recognizes the potential that Micromedex content has to improve patient care.”
