William D. Marder, PhD

Dr. Marder is a nationally known health economist whose work has focused on issues pertaining to physician behavior and medical markets. Dr. Marder is focused on managing Truven Health’s custom offerings to federal and state government agencies. His group provides key interdisciplinary health services research and software development talent in support of government and commercial contracts. In addition, Dr. Marder continues his leadership role in developing and deploying the Truven Health MarketScan® research databases.
For more than 25 years Dr. Marder has managed contract research functions at a number of companies, the past 18 years at Truven Health. In addition to research and consulting, he has been active in national and international groups that develop guidelines for the use of retrospective databases, and he has been responsible for developing and enhancing the MarketScan Research Databases. As a professional economist and health services researcher, Dr. Marder has written on a variety of topics. He has published extensively on aspects of physician supply by specialty. Recently, his work has examined trends in spending and utilization for the privately insured population of the United States, with special focus on the interaction of clinical and economic incentives in healthcare delivery.
Dr. Marder has PhD, AM, and AB degrees in economics from the University of Chicago.
